The first 10-14 days are ideal for the sleepy, curled-up, bare-bottom poses. Older newborns may cooperate and allow themselves to be coaxed into these same poses. No matter what, the images of your new baby will take your breath away! You may or may not want to be photographed yourself; please let me know your preference.
My style is minimalist, organic, and simple. I prefer to use neutral colored fabrics, blankets, and props for a timeless look so that the simple beauty of your baby is the focus of the session. If there is a special item or blanket that you would like incorporated into your photos, I’d love to discuss that with you.
Sessions take place in my home studio in NE Minneapolis for your comfort. All I ask is that you dress your baby in an outfit that need not go over their head. Most often babies arrive asleep and ready for photos.
If you prefer that I come to you, I’d love to do so. In-home sessions are typically less posed and more documentary or lifestyle type images. As the mom of two girls, I know how a house with a newborn often looks – don’t worry, I won’t judge you if there are dishes in the sink, dirty laundry, or floors that need vacuuming, so don’t expend energy cleaning before I come because I will likely document those details.
Nursing, pumping, and/or bottle feeding is a big part of a newborn’s life and will likely take place during our session. If you prefer that I not photograph you and your baby during feeding, please tell me – many new moms are grateful to have photographic memories of their little nurslings.
